We go out of our way--all the way to San Diego, Washington, DC, Columbus, Ohio, in fact--to be sure our classes are the best. Through the National Needlearts Association we take classes from top industry professionals. We've taken classes from the fiber-world rock stars, and we're delighted to bring their creative and technical insights to the store. You'll learn what we've learned from the likes of: Cat Borhdi, innovative sock architecture and techniques; Melissa Leapman, creative cable designs; Sally Melville, color work; Lucy Neatby, finishing garments and fixing mistakes; Rosalie Peters-Bourque, advanced needlepoint technique; June McKnight, fabulous needlepoint embellishments.
Sign up online using PayPal or stop in the store to reserve your space in class. Don't forget to sign up for our monthly e-newsletter--we'll keep you posted on classes, new stuff, and upcoming special events.
ATTENTION: All classes are currently cancelled because of a medical emergency. Sally will be in touch with enrolled stitchers to distribute refunds. We are sorry for the interruption in classes, and will have a new schedule later in the year.
Patriot's (Needle) Point
Thursdays, August 3, 10, 17, 24, 11:30-1:00
Cost: $235, and will include canvas, threads and embellishments, stitch guide, instruction
Skill Level: Intermediate-Advanced
BSBN’s next needlepoint class is a theme she’s never taught, and now she can’t think why not. For four weeks, you’ll be stitching up a 6 x 9 in. canvas of Uncle Sam and Betsy Ross. B. Sue took a class with this sampler, but of course she has her own opinions on it, and has put a spin on the stitch guide. You’ll learn some ironically un-American-named stitches, such as Byzantine, French knots, and Parisian. You'll also use a bunch of new threads and embellishments, including leather, Wilhelmina (shimmered ribbon floss), Klee (variagated boucle), Matisse (rick-rack with metallic beading), sequins, and--of course--stars. Canvases are being painted to order, so you need to sign up early. Stars and stripes and needlepoint forever!
Knit-A-Long: Short Rows as Easy as Pie
August 23-October 3
Cost: $60 includes yarn and pattern (bonus: 9 additional patterns are included in the booklet.)
Double Bonus: B. Sue will lead a little workshop on short rows the day the KAL begins.
Skill Level: Advanced beginner-Intermediate
For the next KAL, we’ll be making a shawl comprised of pie-shaped wedges. Mmm, pie. Each wedge is formed by short-row shaping. Don’t know short rows? Come to B. Sue’s workshop on August 23 to learn her tips for this technique, which you can also use for bust darts and shoulder shaping with a 3-needle bind-off.
You’ll be using size 4 needles and a wool-blend, self-striping yarn. Choose from one of seven flavors of pie, available on a first-come, first-serve basis (we have three servings of each flavor). Triple bonus: You'll receive a recipe for your pie along with your yarn. You may pick up your yarn after August 15--we suggest you pick it up on the 23rd and stay for the workshop--or we'll mail it to you for an additional $6 if you live out of town.
